According to the Spanish-language MM sister newspaper Ultima Hora, the days from April 6 to 9 are particularly critical, as there are no more free beds. Demand from Germany is exceeding all expectations. The areas most affected are Platja de Muro, Cala Millor and Platja de Palma.

Tour operators report that growth in German tourism has increased since February and will continue in the summer season. Hotel and airline booking numbers are higher than Easter 2019, which explains why some hotels were surprised by the strong demand. German airlines such as TUI Fly and Eurowings report optimal flight utilization in the first half of April. The German Travel Association and ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents) communicate that Easter is just the tip of the iceberg and similar developments are expected in Mallorca from May.

The forecasts exceed all previous records of Easter 2019. The average occupancy rate of hotel chains will range from 70 to 80 percent, with some establishments reaching as high as 90 percent. The greatest demand comes from Germany, although the UK market is also returning to pre-Corona pandemic levels. Mallorcan families who traditionally spend Easter at Platja de Muro, Cala Millor or Port de Pollença, have difficulty making bookings yet.

Many German tourists who normally fly to Turkey are now opting for Mallorca due to last month’s earthquake. According to tour operators, a flight from Germany to Mallorca in the period between April 6 and 9 costs between 500 and 600 euros (half board), including flight, accommodation and transport from the airport. For 800 to 900 euros, you can get the same deal in Palma’s city hotels or five-star establishments.

The hotel bookings for Easter week have exceeded all expectations, which means that the accommodations in Mallorca are at the edge of their capacity and currently no more reservations are possible.
